Library poised to entertain this holiday

The chances are that, by January, children will have tired of playing with their presents every day, and will need something else to entertain them before the new school term starts. It is probably for the best, therefore, that Hawthorn families are well catered for with a series of events for children run by Boroondara libraries during this school holiday.

The schedule includes a performance suitable for all ages, family story times and two craft activities for school age children. At Hawthorn library on Thursday, January 10, there will be a performance of the puppet show ‘Three Little Pigs with a Twist’ with puppeteer Ralph Baker. The following week, on Thursday, January 17, there will be a performance of ‘Pirates of the Cannabeans’ - an English-style pantomime about a quest for pirate treasure.

Before that, on Tuesday, January 8, there will be a chance to make characters from the popular Dr. Seuss series of Books, which have been printed and reprinted by printing companies many times.

On Tuesday, January 15, there will be a session on making rockets, during which children will be able to make rockets from a variety of materials and designs to test which works best. There will also be a family story time session on Friday, January 11.

Activities are also taking place at Boroondara's other libraries in Ashburton, Balwyn, Camberwell and Kew. All the activities are free, but places must be booked in advance for everything except the story time session. Bookings can be made from Monday, December 17 through the library website or via telephone.
