Hawks look to swoop into Grand Final

Local business owners are getting behind the Hawthorn Hawks as the AFL finals loom this weekend.

The main shopping area in Glenferrie Road has been turned into a riot of brown and gold as shop owners and residents display their support for the local team.

The Hawks play Adelaide on Saturday in the preliminary final and a win can take them all the way to the Grand Final. Last year, the Hawks lost the preliminary final to Collingwood and the team is keen to make up for that this time round. This year, the Hawks finished top of the table and are favourites to win this weekend’s match. Before kick-off, the Hawks will know whether they will face Sydney or Collingwood in the Grand Final if they win. That match is being played on tomorrow night in Sydney.

Among the more creative displays of support on show in Hawthorn is a hawk made from coffee beans at Browns Bakery. Many other retailers and business owners have also been taking care of some poster printing in support of the team.

Before the match, fans can catch a glimpse of their favourite players at an open training session. The session will be held at the Ricoh Centre on tomorrow, September 21, and starts at 11:00 am.

The game kicks off at 5.15pm this Saturday, September 22, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Tickets are now on general sale and more information can be found on the Hawks’ website.
