The fun of the fair comes to Melbourne this weekend with the opening of the Royal Melbourne Show.
Having been running for more than 100 years since its beginnings as a ploughing competition, the show is one of the city’s most popular events.
Visitors from Essendon are superbly placed near the Showgrounds to make the most of the festival, including the nightly fireworks show.
The stars of the show are most definitely the animals and this year there will be thousands competing to win the coveted ‘Best in Show’ ribbons, while youngsters can get up close and personal with cuddly baby critters in the petting zoo.
While much of the focus is on animals, agriculture and food, there are also plenty of other attractions to entertain the whole family. Thrill-seekers can challenge themselves on the 100 kilometre per hour roller coaster, or get scared in the Hollywood Horrors maze, while creative types can learn a new skill including embroidery, knitting or cake decorating from an expert.
Printing services have been used to create a colourful programme, which includes a map of all the attractions and details of all the events taking place, so visitors will not miss a thing.
The Royal Melbourne Show runs from Saturday, September 20th to Wednesday, October 1st at the Melbourne Showgrounds. For full details and ticket prices, visit the Show website.
