What's Happening in Essendon, VIC…

Future of neighbourhood space up for debate

Essendon residents are being asked to give their views on plans for a local community centre.

Moonee Valley City Council is looking for feedback on the Essendon Junction Structure Plan, which has just been released in draft form.

The plan is designed to create a future for the Essendon Junction area, which is currently used as a neighbourhood activity centre. It is marked as an urban renewal area in the state government’s plans, which means it has increased recognition as being important to the area.

The draft document comprises a 20-year plan for the area that includes potential changes to the use of the land, how people access the area, and how new buildings and open spaces are designed. The feedback will be used to finalise the structure plan, which will eventually be included in the Moonee Valley Planning Scheme.

Printing services have been used to create an exhibition of the plans, and it will be on show at Ukrainian House in Essendon. An information session will be held on Thursday, June 25th at 6pm, when the plan will be presented and questions can be asked.

Two drop-in sessions will also be held on Thursday, July 2nd from 1pm to 6.30pm, and Saturday, July 4th from 10am to 2pm, when council officers will be on hand to talk to residents.

Feedback can be given until Friday, July 17th.
