What's Happening in Essendon, VIC…

Future of Essendon Junction settled by Council

A plan to guide the future of the Essendon Junction Activity Centre has been formally adopted by the Moonee Valley City Council.

Essendon Junction is a neighbourhood activity centre that must be maintained under State Government requirements and should be a mix of dwellings, retail, and services, along with public transport access.

The structure plan for Essendon Junction has been adopted by the council following a period of public consultation that resulted in 109 submissions, mainly in favour of the plan. It will guide its development over the next 20 years and covers land use, as well as building design and open spaces.

The plan includes suggestions to develop six precincts around the area, including the station, where the council hopes the Victorian State Government will remove the level crossing and move the railway line under the road, and site-wide initiatives such as improving access for pedestrians and cyclists.

Going forward, the council could use printing services to create information leaflets and documents to keep locals informed about how the centre will be developed.

The Council will now implement the actions in the plan and include some parts in the Moonee Valley Planing Scheme.

This will take place next year and will include a further period of consultation. Full details of the structure plan can be found on the Moonee Valley City Council website.
