Family fun on offer at the Royal Melbourne Show

One of the highlights of Melbourne’s event calendar starts this weekend with the opening of the Royal Melbourne Show.

The show runs for nearly two weeks with each day packed full of activities, entertainment and special events, topped off with a nightly fireworks display.

The show is organised by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria and is now held at the Melbourne Showgrounds. From humble beginnings as a ploughing contest in Moonee Ponds in the 1840s, it has developed into one of the state’s top events and attracts around half a million visitors each year.

The show still has a strong agricultural theme with breeders vying to win the best in show prize in categories including cattle and alpacas, while youngsters will love spending hands-on time with the cute and cuddly animals in the petting zoo.

Other highlights include cooking demonstrations from Masterchef contestants, craft workshops, thrilling fairground rides and live music. There are also numerous shopping opportunities with stalls offering crafts, food, clothes and homeware as well as several food outlets showcasing local produce.

Printing services have been used to create a glossy brochure with all the details of the show to make sure visitors do not miss any of the attractions.

While the showgrounds are not far from Essendon, the town’s residents who are thinking about attending the show are advised to use public transport, as parking can be difficult.

The show starts tomorrow and runs until Wednesday October 2. For more information and to book tickets, visit the Royal Melbourne Show website.
