The fun of the fair comes to Melbourne again next month with the iconic Royal Melbourne Show, and Essendon residents are ideally placed to enjoy all the attractions on offer.
The Royal Melbourne Show has been run by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria since the 1840s and has developed from a simple agriculture show to a major event that attracts around half a million visitors each year.
This year, visitors can learn some new skills at the farmyard, where they can milk a cow and try shearing a sheep, as well as enjoying a show from skilled working dogs. A range of rides from the sedate to the thrilling will keep people of all ages entertained, and popup restaurants will satisfy the appetites.
For the first time, renowned pastry chef Adriano Zumbo will also be taking part, with a dessert bar featuring some of his creations during the show’s first week.
With so much going on, show-goers should look out for poster printing advertising the various stages and events throughout the day.
The event will also feature the traditional animal competitions, with cattle, sheep, pigs, and alpacas among those competing to be best in show.
This year’s show takes place at the Melbourne Showgrounds from Saturday, September 19 to Tuesday, September 29. The full schedule can be found on the official show website.
