Bands set to battle it out in Moonee Valley

Young music fans from Essendon can enjoy a host of local talent when this year’s Battle of the Bands regional heat takes place later this month.

The popular annual event sees musicians take to the stage in a bid to become the best in Victoria. It is open to anyone under the age of 25, and performers can take part as a group or a soloist from any genre of music.

The Moonee Valley contest is one of a series of heats, judged by a panel of industry professionals, which will determine which bands take part in the regional finals.

Winners of each regional final then compete for the grand prize at the Freeza Push Start festival early next year.

The eventual winners stand to receive a range of prizes designed to help boost their profile and further their music, including mixing sessions, musical equipment, promotional material – perhaps including poster printing and flyer printing – and a magazine feature.

This year, five acts – including Malibu Barbee and Old Street – will play at the Moonee Valley heat at The Hub in Niddrie. The event also includes a secret headline act.

The all-ages gig takes place on Saturday, August 30th. Doors open at 1.30pm and the music begins at 2pm, running until 6pm. The event is alcohol, drug, and smoke free.
