She was given her award for her work titled ‘Go Forth and Prosper,’ which obviously impressed as around 15,000 votes were counted in total and this piece stood out for voters. Whilst becoming a professional artist is one dream of Monica’s, she also hopes to encourage others to follow their dreams too. Earlier this month, Monica said:
"It's just basically chasing a dream. I wanted to put forward the message it's good to dream and it's good to stay dreamy."
Francis Lindsay is the deputy director of National Gallery Victoria and commented on his pride in being involved with this exhibition. He said:
“The NGV is proud to present artworks of such high calibre from Victoria's most promising young artists.”
Monica is inspired herself by artists such as Salvador Dali and MC Esher and plans to focus on surrealism and photorealism in her career.
With such promising young talent, it is quite possible that Monica’s work will once again be displayed in art galleries such as the National Gallery Victoria. With many galleries using postcard printing of the art they display, as well as poster printing utilised for particular popular works, we may all be able to take a little bit of her art home with us one day.
