Popular music fans living in the Dandenong area might be keen to watch a morning concert dedicated to pop heavyweights of the last 60 years.
As part of the Drum’s Encore Program, two singers will be recreating the magic of Carole King and Neil Sedaka.
King (previously known as Klein) and Sedaka met as classmates at James Madison High School in Brooklyn, New York, and dated briefly during the late 1950s before becoming good friends. Sedaka went on to pen Oh! Carole!, which reached number six in the US, number three in the UK and number one in the Netherlands charts. The success of this song convinced King that she should also pursue a career in the music business.
King wrote the music and her first husband, Gerry Goffin, wrote the lyrics. King is probably best known for her album Tapestry in 1971, which spawned hits such as It’s Too Late and You’ve Got a Friend.
Additional songs during the performance are likely to include Laughter in the Rain, Calendar Girl and Breaking Up is Hard to Do, by Sedaka.
Venues hosting musical events will often use poster printing to advertise within the community.
