Victoria to host four-week NBL Melbourne Hub

Basketball enthusiasts in Dandenong will be right near all the action of the National League when Victoria hosts an exclusive NBL Hub for four weeks.

To feature all the NBL teams, of which there are nine, the competition will kick off on February 20 and 39 regular season games will be contested in Victoria, including three regional venues, according to Acting Major Events, Sport and Tourism Minister Jaclyn Symes. She said basketball had a big following across the state, and added:

“This will give fans the chance to see more top-level games and world-class players than ever, and we’ll ensure it’s done safely in accordance with the latest public health advice.”

The majority of NBL matches will be played at the State Basketball Centre and John Cain Arena, which together will host 36 games from February 20. Up for grabs in the Melbourne Hub will be the competition's inaugural NBL Cup, as well as a share for the three top teams in the NBL-funded $300,000 prize pool.

Following the Melbourne Hub clashes, teams will head back to their own states to finish the rest of their NBL season.

Extensive flyer printing campaigns have often been rolled out to spread the word about major sporting events such as this in Victoria.

Basketball is a popular sport in Victoria, where the State Government has invested strongly in performance development, community programmes and top infrastructure, as well as a further commitment of $22m to redevelop the State Basketball Centre.
