The aim of the new facility is to accommodate local children who have additional needs. This has come as welcome news to Gabrielle Williams, Member for Dandenong who said:
“The Amalfi Drive site will be transformed into a world class special school to service growing demand for schools in the south east.”
The project, Williams said, will be fully funded by the government which had already committed planning funding in relation to building the special school at Endeavour Hills in its 2018/19 Budget for Victoria.
Planning preparations usually include a graphic design of the proposed development which helps the community gain a snapshot of what is to come.
The original Endeavour Hills Secondary College has been closed for some time and the building has sat derelict. However, the closure sparked a campaign by the local community for the site to be redeveloped, which is now set to be realised.
Williams said the latest news is part of a major $850 million investment by the government which includes 10 new schools across Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs. She said every child deserves a chance to succeed and achieve at a top local school.
Doors are expected to open at the new special school in 2022.
