Children will be the centre of attention around Dandenong later this month, when the Greater Dandenong Children's Festival takes place in the area.
The festival runs for two weeks and coincides with the school holidays. Children will find plenty to keep them entertained with everything from live performances to craft workshops.
The main event will be the Little Day Out, which is scheduled for this Sunday at Ross Reserve Park. During the family-friendly afternoon, there will be face-painting, live music, sports and workshops suitable for children of all ages.
Children from Dandenong will also find plenty of activities on their doorstep with many taking place at the local library and the Heritage Hill Museum. Museum events include a composting workshop, script writing, and an improvisation session.
The library will host several performances, including a story about a hat which blows away and a monster which is unable to scare people. On Friday September 27 and Friday October 4, youngsters will also be able to find out more about fresh food, with a race around Dandenong market and a cooking lesson from the resident chef.
The colourful events should make for cute pictures of children. Families could ask printing companies to reproduce some of the photographs as keepsakes or perhaps to send to relatives as Christmas Cards or Calendars.
The festival is running right through until Sunday October 6. Most events are free, but some have a small charge. Booking may also be required. For more information, visit the Greater Dandenong City Council website.
