LGPro awards are given for outstanding achievements within the Local Government sector of Victoria. The award is another feather in the cap for the City of Dandenong, following last year’s Parks and Leisure Australia award given to the Noble Park Aquatic centre, which now offers a huge variety of aquatic and recreational activities for the entire community.
The new Civic Space provides an outlet for local artists to display their talents, and includes seating, lighting, a community stage and toilet facilities. The redevelopment has transformed a previously unattractive section of land into a welcoming space and a showcase for creative talent. Greater Dandenong Mayor Angela Long said:
“It’s highly regarded by the community and is often the focus for community activities, creating positive perceptions about Noble Park.”
Paperbark Ward councillor Roz Blades admitted the project had its trying moments, but the finished product was well worth the effort. She even suggested a sign at the park to celebrate the achievement. Dandenong printing companies eager to promote the win with banner printing may wish to get onboard.
Community involvement has been instrumental in creating concepts for the new space, with the council acknowledging enthusiastic locals as co-creators. Cr Blades said she believes the Civic Space is fantastic for the people of Dandenong and was something to be proud of for local people.
