Dandenong residents have a month left to put themselves forward to be part of the area’s history.
The Greater Dandenong City Council needs a name for its new civic square and is inviting local people to choose it. The public space is located at the new Civic Centre and was opened last month.
The square offers a green space for residents to meet and relax and can also host events with a big screen and seating.
As well as being placed on signage around the area, the name is also likely to be used in promotional material, such as poster printing, meaning that the resident who comes up with the winning moniker will see their choice across the city.
Any idea can be put forward. However, the name must not match any existing one within a five-kilometre area. Greater Dandenong Mayor Jim Memeti said the name could reflect the city’s history or point towards its future. It could also have a personal connection to a resident.
Submissions should include what the name means to the nominator and the reason for the suggestion. A shortlist will be released for public consideration and the final choice will be announced next year.
Suggestions can be submitted by email, online or by post to the council. Submissions must be made by Monday, June 30th. For more details, see the council’s website.
