Dandenong is now home to a new multi-sport court that is designed for use by the local community.
The court was opened recently by the Mayor of the City of Greater Dandenong, Roz Blades and Minister for Youth, Gabrielle Williams and it was made possible through the Revitalising Central Dandenong state government initiative.
Funding for the project, which was constructed by Ace Landscape Services, included a $100,000 contribution by the city council and more than $500,000 from the Victorian government.
Sited at the corner of George and Cadle streets, the multi-sport facility will be ideal for hosting popular sports such as futsal, netball and basketball. CCTV and lighting are also included for added security and safety.
As it is designed for community use, many sporting fixtures such as these are often advertised via flyer printing. A successful ‘pop-up’ park trial at a Foster Street, Dandenong site was what eventually led to the multi-sport court becoming a reality.
The new facility represents part of a $290m commitment by the Victorian government to transform Dandenong’s central area into a thriving and vibrant service and economic hub.
According to Williams, the Revitalising Central Dandenong project has, since 2006, attracted private investment totalling near $700m into the city. She said the investment and projects such as the new community court were helping to enhance the area and boost its appeal as a great and exciting place to visit, work and live.
