Although the program is still with the printing company, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival has released some details and tickets for upcoming acts and special events.
The televised Gala for Oxfam being held this year at the wondrous Palais Theatre has already been sold out so if you want to see it, you’ll have to catch it on television this time around.
Fortunately there are still many more events still on sale like the Allstars Supershow, again at the Palais Theatre on 28 March, which is the great opening night event where over twenty local and international acts get five minutes in the spotlight. This is also a televised event being recorded by Channel Ten.
Always a favourite and almost always hosted by the great uncle of Australian comedy Paul McDermott, The 23rd Annual Great Debate (8 April) is on once again featuring the intellectual heavyweights of the Comedy Festival. The website says of these super comedians,
‘Whether fighting for the ‘affirmative’ or ‘negative’ of the chosen topic, it’s not so much who’s right, but who’s oh-so very wrong.’
The Great Debate is always a fun night at the theatre and always ends with a bang and usually with a song from Mr McDermott.
Another event worth checking out is Upfront, a showcase of all of the funniest women of the festival including Cal Wilson, Fiona O’Loughlin, Hannah Gadsby, Kate McLennan, Dixie Longate (USA), Khorsandi (UK) and Tina C (UK). This hilarious event is on at the Melbourne Town Hall on 17 April.
People looking for a laugh will be travelling into Melbourne from as far away as Dandenong to enjoy the incredible smorgasbord of talented performers who are attracted to this internationally esteemed comedy festival. No matter what kind of sense of humour you have, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival will have something for everyone.
The festival runs from 28 March to 22 April 2012 in venues around the Melbourne CBD.
