Grants awarded to help people get active

Dandenong’s Multicultural Youth Women’s Sports Hub is among 79 organisations to benefit from a funding boost from the state government.

Made available through the Together More Active programme, up to $6.3 million will be shared between the recreation and sports groups, according to Tourism, Sport and Major Events Minister Martin Pakula.

He said the grants were enabling government to improve the wellbeing and health of all people, regardless of their circumstances or background, adding:

“More than four million Victorians participate in sport or active recreation at least once a week and the state’s sporting organisations play a vital role in making that possible.”

Providing an opportunity for community members to participate in activities helping to keep them happy and healthy was important, according to the Minister. He said the government was proud to back the enterprising recreation and sports bodies contributing to their success. Organisations such as this often advertise their activities via local flyer printing.

There are 13 themes hosting 147 projects covered as part of the funding, including safety and integrity, governance and leadership, indigenous pathways, diversity and inclusion, workforce development and disability.

In addition to the Dandenong centre, other successful recipients among those named recently include Cricket Victoria, Golf Victoria, Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly and Basketball Victoria.

The Together More Active programme has so far provided $18 million for 109 organisations with relevant programmes that work towards a more inclusive and active Victoria.
