The upgrade of Dandenong's St Mary's Primary School will be among over 50 projects to be fast-tracked and receive funding as part of the Non-Government Schools Capital Fund.
St Mary's will receive $2 million under the fund, which covers Independent and Catholic Schools, according to Dandenong Member Gabrielle Williams.
Williams said the upgrades will not only provide staff and students with better facilities, but will also support jobs and business in the individual areas, as well as aid in the state's economic recovery. Meanwhile, the upgrades will add to the welcoming and inclusive nature of the school environment for children and families, as well as ensuring students have the required spaces to meet educational needs.
The construction phase of the 56 projects, which include six brand-new educational facilities, is expected to generate about 800 jobs.
The latest announcement for Non-Government Schools follows $1.18 billion allocated for the expansions, upgrades and establishment of new government schools in May this year.
Many schools involved in upgrade activities have often kept local families advised of works being undertaken via flyer printing campaigns.
St Mary's Primary School is expected to begin works within six months to meet funding conditions, which are guided by the Victorian Governments desire to create jobs and assist in stimulating the state's economy. Independent and Catholic schools are attended by greater than 33 per cent of students in Victoria.
