Young people in Dandenong can mark National Youth Week in style with an event at the area’s Pop-up Park.
The park has become a popular meeting place for youngsters in central Dandenong since it was set up on a disused site opposite the railway station in 2011. The site features a soccer pitch, and a soccer competition will form one of the main parts of the Youth Week event.
Teams can register for the contest and play other local sides, with medals and prizes awarded to the winners. Fans could show their support from the sidelines using banner printing, as well as dressing in team colours or carrying a lucky mascot.
There will also be a breakdancing competition featuring some of the best dancers from across the Greater Dandenong region, and a series of three-on-three basketball games through the afternoon.
National Youth Week is held each year in April, and celebrates young people aged between 12 and 25 with events held across Australia and the National Youth Awards being announced. This year’s takes place between Friday, April 10th and Sunday, April 19th.
The Dandenong event will be held on April 10th from midday to 7pm at the Pop-up Park in Foster Street, and registrations for the tournaments can be made on the day. For more information, contact the council’s Youth Services department.
