The theatre’s latest season includes ballet, opera and Broadway musicals, and is set to entertain theatregoers of all ages.
One of the season’s major productions is a staging of Hansel and Gretel by Opera Australia on July 1. The group is hoping to introduce children to opera with the show.
Performer Eugene Raggio, who now lives in Dandenong after training in Sydney, said the production was great for children, explaining:
“Hansel and Gretel is quite a sophisticated opera musically, but it is a very accessible storyline for children. It doesn’t talk down to children, it plays to their level, their interests and developing personalities”.
Later in July, the Australian Ballet will present three ballets including Swan Lake as part of its regional touring programme.
Coming up sooner than this, the Windmill Theatre Company will present Broadway hit Guys and Dolls, which tells the story of gamblers, showgirls, and missionaries and runs June 19 to 28.
Also, tonight and tomorrow night, one of Australia’s favourite singers Wendy Stapleton will be bringing a new show to the theatre. The Swinging Sixties focuses on female singers from the decade and is sure to include some firm favourites from the era that will get the audience singing along.
