Dandenong’s Drum Theatre is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with a special concert, in addition to its usual range of events.
The gala concert to be held this month will include local performers and Australian singer Silvie Paladino, who also sang at the theatre’s opening concert in 2006.
Silvie has performed on stage in Australia and London’s West End and at many national sporting events, and is also well known for her singing during the Nine Network’s popular ‘Carols by Candlelight’ show.
During the afternoon before the concert, the venue will hold a ‘come and try’ event, where residents can look around the theatre.
The Drum was opened in 2006 by the then Mayor of Dandenong Peter Brown and then Victorian State Premier Steve Bracks.
More than 1,600 performances have taken place at the venue during the decade, with poster printing advertising big artists including The Wiggles, the Russian National Ballet and the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre throughout the years.
This year’s programme includes The Marriage of Figaro by Opera Australia, an ABBA tribute show and a retelling of The Little Mermaid. The theatre will also stage the first Australian performances of a live show based on children's favourites Ben and Holly.
