Residents in Dandenong are invited to celebrate with a local school as it marks its 140th anniversary next month.
Dandenong Primary School is holding an open day to celebrate its birthday on Saturday, 3rd May and is inviting past and current students – as well as current and former teachers, and the local community – to join the party.
The school, formerly known as Dandenong East Primary School, first opened in 1874 at a site on the corner of Robinson Street and Foster Street. In 1881, the school moved to its current site on Foster Street. It has subsequently been extended to accommodate growing pupil numbers that peaked in the 1960s at more than 700 before dropping as new schools opened in the area.
The school now has a roll of around 300, with families from more than 40 different nationalities.
The open day next month will see the history of the school showcased with an exhibition of photographs and memorabilia. The occasion would make an excellent opportunity for families to take pictures of children who are currently at the school, and perhaps even other family members who are former students. These could be produced by a professional printing company as a memento of the occasion.
Sporting activities, children’s rides, displays from community groups, and Devonshire teas will also be on offer during the event. For more information, contact the school.
