Chance to learn healthy habits in Dandenong

Dandenong residents who would like to improve their cooking skills can now sign up for a cookery course inspired by top chef Jamie Oliver.

Oliver started the Ministry of Food programme after deciding he wanted to increase the number of people with basic cooking skills and the ability to make simple family meals.

The idea started with a television series in which people learnt new recipes and shared them with others, and has now spread to a series of mobile kitchens that run 10-week courses.

Each week, participants are taught to cook simple meals and get hints to help them in the kitchen. The courses are hands-on, so people taking part will actually make and taste the dishes.

The kitchen has just arrived in Dandenong and will be located at Palm Plaza. There is still time for people to sign up for the second set of courses that begin next month.

The course cycle begins on Wednesday, September 10th, and there are several classes each day to choose from.

To celebrate the kitchen coming to the area, Dandenong City Council will be organising a series of activities promoting healthy lifestyles and providing information through channels such as flyer printing to encourage all residents to get healthier.

Bookings must be made in advance through the Jamie’s Ministry of Food website. Dandenong library staff can also assist with bookings.
