Dandenong residents who want a say in the name of the new civic square have just a couple more weeks to make their views known.
The public space was opened in April last year and offers a place for people to meet and enjoy the fresh air, as well as acting as a venue for community events.
The City of Greater Dandenong Council asked residents to help it name the square, and more than 160 suggestions were received as part of the initial process.
The name will no doubt feature on the council’s promotional material, such as flyer printing, so it is important that it accurately reflects the area and the views of its residents.
Five names have been shortlisted, and they are: Harmony Square, chosen to reflect the peaceful nature of the community; International Square, chosen to represent the different cultures of residents in Dandenong; Opportunity Square, chosen to look forward to the area’s bright future; and Welcome Square, chosen because the space is a place for community gatherings.
The fifth suggestion, Wurundjeri Square, has been forwarded to celebrate the area’s Aboriginal heritage.
Comments on the proposed names can be submitted until Saturday, February 28th either through the online comments form or by printing out the comments postcard, which can be delivered to the council by post or by hand. The new name is set to be announced in the middle of the year.
