There will be plenty of opportunities across Dandenong in the coming months to mark Anzac Day and the 100th anniversary of the Gallipoli landings.
As part of the commemorations, a new walking trail around Greater Dandenong is being established, with series of information boards being installed.
The first of these will be at the Drum Theatre, which was formally the town hall where war recruits signed up, and will be erected about a week after Anzac Day. Other sites include Dandenong Primary School and the Peace Memorial Bridge.
In Dandenong Civic Square, a collection of giant poppies created by the community will be on display, and Dandenong library will have a window display of memorabilia including uniforms, photographs, and written stories of individuals who served Australia during the war. These items have been loaned from the Dandenong RSL and Colin Robinson, president of the Springvale and District Historical Society.
