Maroondah Council is currently assessing the group’s new plans, which represent a downscaled version of the initial proposals and are seen to be more viable than previous incarnations. The development will see the centre double in size, with significant additions including a food court, a Kmart, an Aldi, extensive sheltered parking and improved access from the local train station.
The plans, which are currently on display to the general public, will be carried out over a three stage process and will provide a significant boost to the local business community. Printing companies in the area are likely to see an increase in business due to the requirement for Promotional Products and Flyers.
Greg Morton, from local restaurant Big Mates Pizza, is very pleased with the new design and said:
“These plans seem a bit more practical and more friendly. There is always that fear of change and there are a few traders who wonder where they fit in but overall it is great for the community.”
A decision on the plan’s approval is expected from the Council in the next three months.
