Residents of Croydon will have the opportunity to enjoy the “Before time: Angkamuthi meets Gunditjmara” exhibition at Artspace at Realm.
The exhibition features the work of Teho Ropeyarn and Vicki Couzens, who both use vivid imagery and have deep and long-lasting connections to their cultures and clan groups.
“Before time” features artworks drawing upon the recurring themes of dreamtime stories and celestial bodies. The artworks link the past and present through narratives that have been passed down through generations.
Ropeyarn is a printmaker who specialises in the production of large-scale artworks portraying historical and traditional stories, dreaming stories and significant events. In his work, he draws on his heritage from Cape York Peninsula in Queensland
Couzens draws on her Gunditjmara roots from near Warrnambool in Victoria when creating her work. She has produced a series of etchings that include Gundijtmara images and language, and her works have been exhibited all around Australia. She also has pieces displayed in many public collections including the National Gallery of Victoria.
Artists often use Business Cards at exhibitions to ensure visitors who are interested in the artworks are able to take the artist’s contact details away with them.
Before time: Angkamuthi meets Gunditjmara will be open daily from 9am until 5pm until Sunday, February 28, 2021. For more information, see the Maroondah City Council’s website.
