Bricklaying workshop to take place in Croydon

Those interested in pursuing a career in the construction industry have the opportunity to try their hand at bricklaying at the free Work Ready Program being held in Croydon in March.

This workshop offers an introductory look at the bricklaying trade and offers attendees a hands-on experience to evaluate whether this is the career they wish to pursue.

The course is an intensive one-week program where attendees will learn to work in a team, understand safety issues, experience what a day on site feels like, and operate a mixer and other tools. The course culminates with participants trying their hand at basic bricklaying. This hands-on approach gives a true reflection of what the job entails.

Attendees will also gain insight into different types of bricks and materials that are used in the building industry, job opportunities that are available and their responsibilities on a building site.

Due to a shortage of bricklayers in many states, this career presents numerous opportunities for attendees. It is a stepping stone to working within large corporations, becoming a sub-contractor or business owner within the building industry.

Although this course does not provide certification, industry experts are available to give advice and information to better help participants determine if this is the right career path for them. Businesses who provide opportunities such as these, may distribute Business Cards to attendees for future work opportunities or apprenticeships.

The Bricklayer Free Work Ready Program takes place at Swinburne TAFE, Croydon from 23rd-27th March beginning at 8am. Further information and registration can be found online.
