US rock band to play Southport

Southport is set to extend a welcome to a popular California rock group soon, as they pay tribute to the anniversary of their second album.

Southport rock fans can catch Los Angeles favourites Stone Temple Pilots live on stage in March. The band are dropping by the suburb to play Broadwater Parklands as part of a special tour to celebrate their sophomore release, “Purple”

The 30th anniversary tour will see the band playing tracks from the much-loved album for their fans in Australia. Organisers of commemorative tours often work closely with record labels and acts to create Promotional Products featuring special dates and key milestones.

Released through Atlantic Records, Purple was the follow up to Stone Temple Pilots’ successful debut “Core” and had widespread appeal. A major commercial hit, it sold over 252,000 Copies in its first week, and entered the Billboard 200 at number one. It stayed in this regal position for three weeks in a row and sold more than six million Copies.

Fans coming down to the show in Southport will get a chance to hear the seminal recording’s hit singles live, which include "Big Empty", "Pretty Penny", "Interstate Love Song" and "Vasoline".

Stone Temple Pilots will be at Broadwater Parklands on March 8, with special guest Wolfmother in support. The venue is situated at Marine Parade in Southport and the concert will kick off at 7 pm.
