Southport audiences await Billy Elliot stage show
Much loved coming-of-age stage story Billy Elliot is coming to the Gold Coast this year for a limited performance season, produced and secured by Matt Ward Entertainment.
The stage show, which will be hosting its Queensland premiere on the Gold Coast, is being shown at the Star Gold Coast starting in July 2023. It is expected to bring more than 15,000 visitors, from local suburbs of the Gold Coast, such as Southport, to theatre lovers from further afield in the country.
The production value of the show is expected to be worth more than $2 million, with this being Matt Ward's biggest musical so far. The local arts industry will also benefit with the creation of over 100 jobs for the performance, including 23 roles for children being available. Theatre events such as this one are often advertised to audiences through the use of banner printing services designed to entice people to buy tickets.
The Mayor of the Gold Coast has said Matt Ward has continuously brought visitors to the area throughout his career, and that the performance will be immensely important for the art community in the city.
The role of Billy Elliot himself will be played by three 12- to 13-year-olds who have 'exceptional ballet technique' amongst other talents, as national auditions will be starting this month.
