Shoppers step closer to sampling new look Pacific Fair
The $670m redevelopment of Gold Coast shopping icon Pacific Fair is on track, with the planned reopening of some of its major stores set for midyear.
The second stage of the work schedule is nearing completion and activity at long established tenancies such as Coles is heating up, as staff members begin adding the final touches before the doors reopen.
Pacific Fair has been servicing the retail and shopping needs of Gold Coast residents from Coolangatta to Southport, Queensland since 1977.
Initially it offered 96 specialty stores and two major department stores, and has grown to include over 300 specialty outlets, plus Coles, Target, Kmart, Myer and Toys R Us.
The project was ahead of schedule prior to the Christmas break, which gave developers breathing space when heavy rain hit at the beginning of the year, according to Ian Spackman, the project director.
Flyer printing and media reports have kept residents aware of the centre's progress.
Stage 2a incorporates a new car park and 12 specialty shops, as well as the new look Coles. In August, stage 2b is due to be ready to welcome shoppers. It will include a cinema complex, Big W, Woolworths and a fresh food market.
When complete, the work that began in January 2014 will provide 120 additional specialty outlets, a new Big W, Woolworths, and David Jones, as well as a relocated Coles and Target.
