Locals urged to get on board new bike share service
Southport residents are among many on the Gold Coast who can experience a new scheme of bike sharing.
Launched recently, the bike share operation has been introduced by Lime and will involve the initial provision of 750 bikes across key Gold Coast locations.
Mayor of the Gold Coast Tom Tate said the scheme will not be funded by ratepayers and will provide a service that effectively gives everyone an opportunity to cycle whenever they feel like doing so. The bicycles can be easily unlocked and locked via an app and are also dockless and pedal assisted. He added:
Hiring can be undertaken via the Lime app or directly from one of the base points which are located from Burleigh to Runaway Bay and west to Robina, Helensvale and Benowa.
The bicycles have GPS systems built-in and there is potential for increased numbers of bikes, depending on demand. Flyer printing campaigns often accompany the introduction of new transport modes such as this to increase awareness among locals and visitors.
According to Lime representative Lauren Mentjox, the new E-bikes are a convenient, sustainable and safe transport option. The bikes cost $1 to unlock plus 45 cents each minute to use or a pass for 24 hours is available for $16.99.

“We know how much everyone loves to explore the city by bike given the success of our previous bike share company, which saw 100,000 users and the bikes being used twice a day.”
