Community feedback invited on City Plan

Residents of Southport and throughout the Gold Coast are being invited to share their thoughts on proposed changes to the council’s plans for the future.

The document, known as the City Plan, is influenced by the state government’s ‘Shaping SEQ’ and guides the development and growth of the city. According to Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate, the Gold Coast is among Australia’s fastest growing cities and, he added:

“We’re committed to a journey of continual improvements to manage the city’s growth responsibly while maintaining our enviable lifestyle. These updates aim to improve our City Plan by responding to community and industry feedback.”

Six themes will be addressed as part of the updates including the environment, employment diversification and growth, targeted growth areas, urban design and built form, density and height, and land use changes.

The Mayor said that since the City Plan was adopted, council had been looking at ideas for improvement in areas of clarity, consistency and operation. To this end, the council has invited residents to have a say.

Talk-to-a-planner meetings are also being held at Gold Coast locations where participants can give feedback or ask questions. Public consultations and other similar events are often advertised using flyer printing services.

Mayor Tate urged people to take part for an opportunity to help shape Gold Coast City along its journey of growth. Residents can have a say until October 25, when the consultation period will end.
