Australian pop sails into Southport

A popular live music venue in Southport will soon play host to a homegrown pop band.

Australian pop-rock favourites King Stingray are set to drop by Vinnie’s Dive Bar in Southport for a single-night show. Fans of the band will get a chance to hear the group’s unique sound, which has been self-dubbed “Yolŋu surf rock”.

Since the group released their first single “Hey Wanhaka” back in 2020, they have been wowing audiences with their indie music performed in both Yolŋu Matha and English. Last year, in January, King Stingray released another track, “Get Me Out”, describing how important home is to them. Solo artists, musical groups and the recording labels that represent them often look to professional printing services to set artwork for singles sleeves.

King Stingray consists of Yirrŋa Yunupiŋu on vocals and Roy Kellaway and Dimathaya Burarrwanga on guitars, while the rhythm section is made up of Campbell Messer on bass guitar and Lewis Stiles on drums. The band have enjoyed multiple achievements in their short career so far. At the 2021 J Awards, they were nominated for Best Video of the Year for their song “Milkumana” and won the awards for Unearthed Artist of the Year.

King Stingray will now take to the stage at Vinnie’s Dive Bar at 44A Nerang Street in Southport, on Sunday, March 6, with the show starting at 8 pm.
