Volunteer tree planting to enhance Mabel Park

Tree and nature enthusiasts may be keen to support their local environment by taking part in a tree-planting initiative in Slacks Creek on National Tree Day.

At the event, it is hoped that 2,000 native trees will be planted by volunteers, to include groundcover and shrubs. Local councillors hope that many will turn up and get involved:

“The preservation of our green canopy has been nationally recognised and helping Council plant more trees ensures that our healthy and beautiful natural environment is sustainable and can be enjoyed for generations to come.”

Planet Ark, Australia’s foremost environmental not-for-profit organisation, is helping to support the event. Beginning in the 90s, Planet Ark focuses on positive, collaborative environmental solutions and actions that are available to all, with its mission:

“To unite people, businesses and governments through positive environmental actions.”

Children are welcome to attend the event with parental supervision. Attendees should wear suitable footwear and bring water and sun cream. Plants and equipment will be provided, with refreshments available, including a sausage sizzle. Parking onsite is available and prior registration is encouraged. Local councils are often keen to support such events and sometimes commission flyer printing in order to raise awareness.

The free tree-planting event will take place on Sunday, 31st July, between 8am and 10am at Mabel Park, located on Paradise Road in Slacks Creek.
