Tribute to 150-year heritage attracts industry accolades

Logan City's Forest of Memories is not only attracting Queensland residents from Logan and Slacks Creek keen to view a piece of history, but also major awards for its innovative design.

The attraction, which features images of early Logan settlers on colour-changing totems as a celebration of 150 years of European settlement, was a top Queensland design category winner at the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects Awards.

Beenleigh's town centre revitalisation also won praise on the night, while AECOM's Town Square project design won an award in the Urban Design category for landscape architecture.

Councillor Trevina Schwarz said the awards success demonstrated the quality of planning and vision that was being adopted and installed throughout the city's public spaces.

She added that ongoing investment in urban design in Logan Village, Beenleigh, and the other activity centres within Logan City were all centred on the pride of place concept, which was reportedly delivered by the award-winning projects.

Cr Cherie Dalley, of the Planning and Development Committee, said the awards were testament of the strong design choice being made by council for the area's public spaces.

She added it was important that all works carried out stood the test of time, while projects such as the establishment of a new community hub in Beenleigh have a positive effect on the town's growth and development.

Local promotions, including flyer printing in Slacks Creek and Logan, can keep residents aware of such council projects.
