Thousands of residents put health first in council-run courses

Council-subsidised health programmes have been strongly supported by residents in Slacks Creek, Queensland and throughout the local government area of Logan City, and more locals are being encouraged to join in.

The first half of 2015 has seen in excess of 50,000 people take advantage of the Live Well Logan initiative introduced by Logan City Council to improve the health of residents.

Assistant Chair of the sport and Community Services Committee Councillor Jennie Breene encouraged health-minded residents not already enrolled to learn more about the programme, which she said offered low-cost and free healthy living activities.

She said the initiative had been very well supported, with current sessions attracting 95% capacity, which accounted for 50,100 attendances across 92 regular activities so far this year.

Cr. Breene said Council was heartened by the positive feedback provided by the 92% of participants who believed the activities assisted in improving eating habits. An estimated 97% of course attendees recorded a boost in general physical activity.

She said exercise and healthy eating were core objectives towards efforts by participants to maintain good health, and she was pleased the programmed could deliver such results.

Printing services were no doubt used to ensure attendees had relevant information to take home and refer to at the end of the course.

Breene added that the Live Well Logan courses provided something for everyone, ranging from rock climbing and craft activities to DJ workshops.
