Slacks Creek to celebrate Waitangi at Twilight

This February, the suburb of Slacks Creek will be hosting Waitangi at Twilight.

Waitangi Day is a public holiday in New Zealand and an important historical event in the country. In 1840, the Treaty of Waitangi was signed at the Treaty House (formerly James Busby’s residence) at the Bay of islands. The treaty guaranteed rights of the Maoris to their lands as well as British rights during the rule of the British Empire.

The community festival is a collaborative event between Multicultural Affairs of Queensland Government and the New Zealand community of Logan. During the twilight event, attendees have the opportunity to sample traditional food such as Hangi, Rewana, and fried bread, peruse through local arts and crafts and watch live music and dancing.

On the day of the event, at 8pm, attendees will have the opportunity to watch a fireworks display. Chris Wana will be the MC throughout the night. It is an alcohol free event and family-friendly.

Such community events are usually advertised to the area’s residents via flyer printing. During these festivals, local businesses are asked to set up stalls at the event. This can be a good way for them to promote their services and products to a wide target audience with minimal marketing costs.

Waitangi at Twilight will be held on Friday 7th February from 4pm to 11pm at Logan Saints Rugby Union Club, located on 200 Queens Road in Slacks Creek.
