Santas to help children in need in Brisbane

Children’s charity Variety is calling on people from across Brisbane and Slacks Creek to help make its annual Santa Fun Run a huge success.

The group is seeking donations and sponsorships for participants who will walk, run, skip, jump or wheel along a 5km circuit across the Brisbane River and through South Bank.

It is expected that more than 1,000 competitors dressed in festive costumes will line up at Kurilpa Point Park on Sunday December 1 to help kids across Queensland.

The event’s organisers will allow participants to don cotton shorts instead of the long red pants which are usually associated with the famous present-giver, although the registration fee will include a traditional five piece suit. Bottles of water will also be provided to ensure entrants are kept hydrated.

All participants have a common goal in their desire to obtain sponsorship from friends and family to raise funds to assist sick and disadvantaged children throughout the state.

Australian swimmer Geoff Huegill, who is the Santa Fun Run ambassador, said he believes Australians are defined by their “never give up” attitude and willingness to pitch in and help people in need.

Funds raised at the event will be put towards Variety’s Freedom program, which aims to provide Queensland children with independence and freedom using equipment such as modified bikes, Liberty Swings, walkers, postural splints, wheelchairs, standers and Sunshine Coaches.

Businesses such as printing companies are often called upon to help charities when it comes to organising fundraising events in Queensland.
