Residents in Slacks Creek, and the surrounding areas within Queensland, are being asked to put forward ideas on how to best utilise the vacant premises that were once home to the Rochedale Rovers club.
The situation arose after the club’s lease was terminated last year. The Underwood Park building had been untenanted ever since.
Unpaid debts had resulted in voluntary administration of the club since 2010.
While the grounds are still home to the Rochedale Rovers Football Club, interested parties that could be based in the building – and are able to share facilities with the club – are being sought.
Numerous groups had already been in contact with council in regards to using the premises, according to Councillor Lisa Bradley, but she said the feasibility study had been launched to gain an idea of what kind of facility would best suit the community’s needs.
She said it was important to gain input from the community and some great ideas had already been received and taken on board for consideration.
Media reports and flyer printing have helped to alert residents to the efforts.
A $6 million upgrade proposal for the Underwood Park site was tabled by authorities in 2008 and, although a lack of funds prevented the plan from going ahead, Cr Bradley said some of the ideas it put forward could assist in making decisions on the future use of the building.
