Potential incentives may boost development in Logan

Developers may soon have a good reason to bring in new serviced apartments and hotels to Logan, after the city council announced that it is thinking about providing incentives to those developing 3.5-star accommodations.

A similar incentive scheme was handed out earlier in March to developers for building 4-and 5-star hotels.

Based on the potential incentive scheme, infrastructure fees will either be slashed or deferred for developers who build tourism-based accommodation that can eventually draw in economic benefits to the locality.

The newly built hotels and apartments would also lighten the burdens on the Gold Coast and Brisbane hospitality industry, especially during peak seasons when prestigious sporting events are happening.

This new incentive is unlikely to result in new hotels and apartments available in time for the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in the Gold Coast. However, even residents and businesses in suburbs such as Slacks Creek would be able to enjoy the resulting perks further down the track, as Logan slowly transforms into a popular sporting hub. Following the development of reasonably priced 3.5-star accommodations, families in Logan and surrounding areas could also choose to have staycations at hotels when major sporting events are happening in town.

Savvy investors who are interested in Logan could consider purchasing their own investment property in the area, which could be rented out to tourists via various methods, such as through the Airbnb platform.
