Developers in Slacks Creek, Queensland are now able to access an online tool for use when estimating infrastructure contribution costs that accompany new developments.
The online estimator of infrastructure charges was introduced by the City of Logan and is believed to be the first of its kind in Australia specifically introduced for public use.
The new resource can be accessed on the Logan Interactive Mapping Tool.
A Council spokesman said it gave developers an opportunity to learn more about infrastructure costs for proposed developments prior to committing to a new project, or spending time on document scanning of information accessed from council.
He said such charges usually related to public infrastructure such as community facilities, storm water and sewerage.
Councillor Cherie Dalley, who heads the Planning and Development Committee, said the new online tool was an innovation aimed at stepping up the efficiency of planning within the city.
She said it was user-friendly and transparent, and by answering just a couple of questions, developers would be furnished with an on-screen estimate of any infrastructure charges that would apply to the proposal.
Cr. Dalley said the online tool would streamline the activity and remove the necessity of calling Council or meeting with one of its representatives to discuss the issue.
Initiatives that reduced the complexity and time relating to development proposals were welcomed by Brett Gillan, President of the Urban Development Institute of Australia (Qld), who said it would lead to better planned communities in the future.
