After studying hard for at least seven years at university, 40 interns have joined the Logan Hospital graduate program. One of the local graduates entering the program is 24 year old Emma Fuller. She told local newspaper, The Reporter:
"After seven years at uni, to finally be entering the workforce is a really great feeling.
It's a similar feeling to first day of school. There's a bit of trepidation and excitement, but also scary knowing you'll soon be unleashed onto the community with a lot of responsibility on your shoulders."
Completing their orientation in January, the graduates now begin an intensive internship program which will include hands on experiences in general medicine, surgery and emergency over a twelve month period. Although they are not ready to have their new business card printing done, they are well on their way to becoming fully fledged doctors.
The executive director of Logan Hospital, Dr Jennifer King, told The Reporter:
"The Logan Hospital has certainly grown a reputation for being a great training ground and is seen as a desirable place to work."
Adrian Castelli, another of the local interns, agreed:
"I've been to a lot of hospitals during placements at university and the training offered here is the best I've seen. It's really a general hospital and as an intern you're able to come out as a rounded doctor."
