The safety aspects of riding a motorcycle will be the focus of a free event in Slacks Creek, Queensland.
The opportunity for motorcyclists to learn more about road safety, as well as contributing factors towards incidences of fatal and serious accidents, has been offered as part of the SafeRoads4Logan initiative of Logan City Council.
According to Councillor Phil Pidgeon, Chairman of the Roads and Water Infrastructure Committee, the majority of Logan’s more recent road fatalities had involved motorcyclists.
He said scanning the statistics revealed inexperience, rider error and speed were often contributing factors to fatal accidents involving motorcycle riders.
Cr Pidgeon said the council’s free event will welcome all motorcycles riders from across the community whether they simply like to cruise through the rural and hinterland areas, or regularly take on the urban streets.
He said the aim is to educate riders on the risks and ways in which they could be avoided to ensure all riders arrive home safely.
Department of Transport and Main Roads staff, as well as local police, will be on hand at the motorcycle safety meet to provide valuable information, bust myths that could be causing concern among riders and answer any questions.
Cr Pidgeon said Logan offered many great places to ride but it was important that people use their motorcycles in a safe manner.
Yamaha Motorcycles in Slacks Creek will host the event this Saturday, July 16, from 9:00 am to 1:00pm.
