Longest Aussie bridge constructed in Slacks Creek

A new pedestrian bridge in Slacks Creek represents the longest of its kind in Australia. Recently completed, the single-span structure constructed from fibre-reinforced polymer is 32 metres long.

The bridge installation, which involved craning pieces into place over a delicate 10-hour operation, is part of the Compton Road Shared Footpath and Cycle Lane Project. The major infrastructure project, as well as delivering pedestrian bridges and boardwalks on nearby Allgas and Baker Streets, links Compton Road with the Greenlink recreation and environmental corridor which opened last year. Running along Slacks Creek, the $3.2 million corridor is almost a kilometre long and up to 4 metres wide at points.

Councillor Mindy Russell said that the new pedestrian link will only increase the use of the already popular Greenlink:

“This new link should make it [the Greenlink] even more popular with people who want to exercise, relax, or make their way around the city without needing a car.”

Theresa Lane, City of Logan Councillor and Infrastructure Committee Chair, also praised the outcome of the project, saying:

“Whether you’re on two wheels or two feet, this will make your journey a lot smoother.”

Print shops often play a role in campaigns to notify the community of changed access conditions and additional amenities through Flyers and Posters.

The recommendation for the Greenlink corridor originated from the Springwood Summit hosted in 2017 by the City of Logan Council.
