Logans history lit up with new forest centre

The Forest of Memories educational museum in Logan was lit up for the first time recently, showcasing 150 years of the area’s history.

The facility was created with the assistance of people from Slack’s Creek and the surrounding areas, who decided on the settlers and stories which would be included.

Don Peterson, Division 4 councillor, thinks the forest will be a great way to learn about the district, for both visitors and locals. He said:

“There are 15 totems in the forest, which will be lit up by a spectacular light show at night, making the installation a vibrant addition to the Albert St area.”

Notable inclusions amongst the totems are locals Robert Towns and William Drynan, alongside US Army Sgt Gerald O’Cable and Captain Patrick Logan. Interpretive bollards have also been erected, educating visitors about the life and times of Logan Village. Images of the Logan River wharf, timber getters, and working ships of the past illuminate local history and the importance of the river.

The council is hoping the forest will not only educate about the past, but also light the way toward a bright future for Logan Village. It has been established to showcase the region both by night and day, and was created as part of the 150th Anniversary celebrations for Logan Village. Those with additional information or photos are encouraged to share them with council for possible inclusion. Slacks Creek printing services can also be called upon to restore these images.
