Fresh produce grown in Slacks Creek and throughout the City of Logan is on show as part of the 2016 Ekka celebration.
According to Councillor Laurie Smith, who chairs the City Image committee, the display of local produce is another chapter in the rich agricultural history of the city.
He said growers were presenting a new twist on traditional homegrown foods, while also promoting its area of origin by distributing Business Cards, Flyers and Brochures.
Cr Smith said Logan City enjoys a 150 year history of food production and farming that remains reflected in local venues including the Beenleigh Rum Distillery, which is Australia’s longest operating distillery.
He said in recent years, a new breed of producers and growers had sprung up throughout the city and were effectively adding a new chapter to the traditions established by the area’s early pioneers.
Fresh produce and food, he said, are also part of a thriving Queensland export industry to national and international destinations.
Cr. Smith said the City of Logan Council was proud of the many food businesses and growers within its boundaries, and the Ekka display is an opportunity to highlight the region’s diversity and the important role agriculture plays in the local economy, which has now reached $19bn.
Among local producers and products to be featured at the stand are Carcamos Gourmet Caramel Apples, Kenon Mushrooms, Riverview Herbs and The Spice Exchange.
The Ekka runs until August 14.
