Luke Smith from Division 6 has recently took part in a trade mission which encompassed Singapore, Hong Kong, Seoul and Guangzhou, where he made contact with the China-Australia Entrepreneurs Association Incorporated (CAENI).
Councillor Smith obviously made the right impression, as prospective investors from China have already visited Logan City in order to have a first-hand look at opportunities. In the meantime, the council continues to work hard in drawing further delegations. Pam Parker, Logan’s mayor, considers the return visit a sign of real confidence in Logan Shire's economic potential. She said:
“We already know just how much untapped economic potential Logan City has and the visit is a real vote of confidence in our planning, development, and future potential.”
The visit to China was made especially productive by timing it as part of a visit by Tim Nicholls, Minister for Trade, who assisted Logan Council by providing access to prominent Asian economic regions. Councillor Smith is confident that Logan’s selection of important industries, alongside its infrastructure, will secure the area as a destination for investment. Councillor Smith said:
“When I met with representatives from CAEAI in Guangzhou they were not aware of Logan City or its potential.”
The Guangzhou representatives promptly cancelled a proposed trip to France and re-routed their journey to visit Logan City.
