Huge tourism project set to create 600 jobs

Employment opportunities for jobseekers in Slacks Creek are set to improve with the recent approval of the largest tourism infrastructure project ever to be undertaken within Logan City.

According to a graphic design of the proposed Lakes resort development, the project will be set in Carbrook and will overlook the Logan River.

The proposal for 1,500 units was submitted by Queensland’s Australian SN International Investment Group, which has just received approval by Logan City Council as well as support from the State Government.

Logan Councillor Russell Lutton said that once completed, the resort is expected to generate 600 jobs and inject an estimated $53m into the local economy.

This type of investment, he said, is ideal to drive the tourism economy of Logan into the future.

Cr. Lutton described the Lakes resort as a “world-class” waterfront attraction with features including a convention centre, five-star hotel, sports facilities, a bar and restaurant, and moorings for powerboats and yachts.

He said great care has been taken to ensure there is minimal impact from the development on the environment and traffic.

As part of the development, vegetation rehabilitation that will enhance the venue’s ecological state will be undertaken, and the councillor stressed the lack of long-term accommodation will ensure its impact on traffic will be manageable.

Cr. Lutton said the Lake resort will be located on an abandoned prawn farm, which illustrates the way such sites can be transformed into appealing, employment-creating projects.
